Reasons for why these lions climb the trees.
These lions climb trees for a number of specific reasons as some of these may include;
- During rainy seasons, the ground is infested with breeding tsetse flies that bite these lions and other wild inhabitants. This makes the lions run to the tree branches for protection from the many the many pestering insects on the ground.
- These lions as well climb trees because the trees provide a clear spot and view for spotting the various preys that can be seen loitering around the park. Being up in the trees allows them to observe the whole surrounding area and spot any potential prey of the Antelopes, buffaloes, elephants, Uganda Kob etc.
- Some people think it’s in the nature of these lions to climb trees like some sort of a learned behavior driven by their instincts. However, no one has come up with a clear answer for this habit.
- It is believed that they also tend to climb up the trees to avoid heat on the ground and enjoy a fresh and cool breeze as they sleep and rest the day away after a night’s hunt.
