Masai mara park gates: Masai mara national reserve is famous for experiencing the annual migration of wildebeests and being a habitant for many animals such as lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephant, wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelle and many more.
Masai mara national reserve is part of the greater mara ecosystem consisting of the mara triangle, masai mara national reserve and numerous masai conservancies such as Koiyaki, Lemek, Ol Chorro Oirowua, Olkinyei, Siana, Maji Moto, Naikara, Ol Derkesi, Kerinkani, Oloirien, and Kimintet. masai mara national reserve is a loved tourist destination by many tourists, the park is accessed using many gate which are used to get to the park from various directions.
Talek gate
Talek gate of Masai mara national reserve is located on the north western end of the reserve, this gate is the most developed gate among the gates of Masai mara national reserve, and the park is situated lies amidst vast open savannah grassland adjacent to Talek River. Talek River creates a natural border between eastern and western region, Talek gate is the best gate to use while lodging at Mara Intrepids Tented Camp, Julia’s River Camp, Aruba Mara Camp, Tipilikwani Mara Camp, Mara Leisure Camp, Fig Tree Camp, Azure Mara Haven, Mara Simba Lodge and Mara Serena Safari Lodge
Sand river gate
Sand river gate of Masai mara national reserve is located on the southern border of masa mara national reserve, the gate is situated on the northern banks of Sand River in a few distance from Bologonja gate of Serengeti national park and the border of Kenya and Tanzania. Sand river gate is the best gate to be used by tourists with an interest of witnessing the annual migration of wildebeests which is an annual occasion, watching the migration is a great spectacle of viewing animals like zebras, wildebeest cross over from Serengeti national park into Masai mara national reserve. Sand River is a tributary river of Mara River which is crossed by animals during wildebeest migration, currently the gate is not frequently used as tourist now use Isebania border.
Musiara gate
Musiara gate used to enter Masai mara national reserve for a safari is located in north eastern end of the park, the gate is situated in a short drive east of Oloololo entrance gate of Masai mara adjacent to the great mara river. Musiara gate is the best gate to be used if you want to witness the great migration of wildebeest and zebras and other animals around Mara River, the gate is situated near Musiara airstrip and it is frequently used by tourists who are using Musiara airstrip to get to the park. Musiara airstrip is frequently use by tourists using accommodation options such as Little Governors Camp, Governors Camp, Governors’ IL Moran Camp, Kandili Camps, Angama Mara, Karen Blixen Camp, Kilima Camp and Nyota Mara Camp.
Sekenani gate
Sekenani gate of Masai mara national reserve is located in the vast savannah plains on the eastern border of the reserve and on the outskirts of Sekenani town, Sekenani gate is the main entrance gate of masai mara national reserve and it is the most used and preferred gate to access the park because it is situated along the main road from Narok town. The gate is situated in a short drive from Narok town and it is the best gate to use while lodging at Mara Sarova Game Camp, Keekorok Lodge, Mara Sweet Acacia Lodge, Mara Springs Safari Camp, Enkolong Tented Camp, Kimana Mara Tented Camp, oldarpoi Mara Camp, Sekenani Camp and AA Lodge Maasai Mara.
Oloolaimutia gate
Oloolaimutia gate of Masai mara national reserve is located among the hilly eastern end of Masai mara national reserve on the outskirts of Oloolaimutia town, the gate has a well-established facility with fully furnished offices with displays of the rules, regulation and information of Masai mara national serve chart and remains of wildlife bones. The gate also has a parking lot for tourist cars, Oloolaimutia gate is the perfect gate to use while lodging at Ol Moran Tented Camp, Mara Sidai Camp, Acacia Camp Mara and many more.
Oloololo gate
Oloololo gate of Masai mara national reserve is located on the north eastern park of the park in a short distance from one of the tributaries of the magnificent mara river, Oloololo gate is situated in a short distance north of Oloololo escarpment the walls of rift valley, west of mara river and it is accessed using Aitong road (C13) and Singor – Kaboson road (C14). Oloololo gate is the best option gate to use while staying at lodges like Mara Big Five Lodge, Fairmont Mara Safari Club, Entim Mara Camp and Oltome Mara Magic Resort, Kilima camps and many more. Oloololo gate is also situated close a public campsite in the park and the gate has a display of rules and regulations to be followed by tourists while on the safari in Masai mara national reserve.
These 6 gates are always open to be used by tourists accessing the Masai mara national reserve for a safari, these gates are allow access of tourists depending on the time frame drafted by the Kenya wildlife society. the gate are open at 6:00 am and they are closed at 6:00 pm on a daily basis, beyond this time frame you are not allowed to exit the gates expect in some cases such as vehicle breakdown or weather cases.
